About World Education

Rooted in literacy and basic education, World Education catalyzes social change at the community level through programs that link education to health, economic, social, and civic development. Our programs equip individuals and local partner organizations with the technical and financial skills they need to develop, manage, and evaluate community-driven programs. We also help these groups strengthen networks with key community leaders, government, and policy officials whose support is critical to long-term success.

Registered as a private voluntary organization, World Education has worked in more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as in the United States. Our programs focus on: girls' and women's education; reducing human trafficking and child labor; HIV and AIDS prevention and care; savings, credit, and micro enterprise; sustainable agriculture; and strengthening the adult basic literacy system in both the United States and abroad. By promoting local ownership, World Education directly involves communities in programs designed to benefit them, which is key to sustainable development and effective self-governance.
